How to Import Tokens in Metamask?

There are a few ways to import Ethereum-based tokens in MetaMask. In this brief tutorial, we’ll see how to search and quickly import or add the token in MetaMask.

  1. Open Metamask and on the homepage, scroll down to the end so that you can find an “import tokens” button. Press on that.

  2. The next page opens with a search input bar. If it doesn’t, click on the search option.

  3. In the search bar, search for the Token you want to add to MetaMask. You can search for the token name or the token contract address here. Ensure you spell it correctly. In our example, we want to add the “Tether USD (TUSD)” token. So, we will enter the text “Tether” (TIP: Avoid searching for symbols as the name clashes may end up with you having an unknown token in your wallet.)

  4. After completing the search, scroll to find the token you wanted to add and click on that and press the next option at the bottom of the MetaMask extension. If you don’t find the token you want, it is likely that you entered the wrong name or the token is not an EVM(Ethereum Virtual Machine) based token.   5. A confirmation screen will appear with the Token name, symbol, and logo in front of you. Click on the import token option from here, your token will get imported into MetaMask, and you can start buying, selling, and swapping your favorite token.

  6. A quick tip: You can kind of verify the authenticity of the added token by going to the three dots in the top right corner then the token details and the token contract address. Search this address on Etherscan to know more about the token.
